I don’t know about you, but my KitchenAid mixer is one of the most used items in my kitchen. For that reason (and the fact that it seems to weigh a metric ton!), it is the owner of a small chunk of my kitchen counter. I was sitting in my kitchen the other day looking across at the mixer and thinking, “I hate that the bowl gets so dusty in between uses.” I always feel the need to rinse it out at the very least, before use which just takes more time away from my baking endeavor. I did a quick search of Etsy and saw that there are some super adorable bowl covers for sale on there. And that is when the wheels started to turn. Surely, I thought, I could make my own.
I feel as though I should interject here by making it known that I am not a seamstress. I am actually really, really terrible at sewing…it’s pretty embarrassing. That being said, this project was so super simple and quick that even I was able to make it happen with no difficulties. So, if you are like me and have no sewing skills what so ever, fear not. You too can conquer this project!
To make your own you’ll need:
fabric of choice (enough to have about 2 inches of space all around the bowl)
matching thread
1/2 inch elastic
charcoal pencil (optional)
pinking shears (optional)
Start by tracing your bowl on the wrong side of the fabric. You’ll now want to mark another circle around the bowl, leaving about two inches all the way around. I used a piece of yarn wrapped around my pencil as a makeshift compass to ensure that my circle was even. Cut around outer circle. Holding the elastic at the edge of the circle, stitch a handful of stitches and reverse. Now sew the elastic around the edge of the circle fabric, making sure to pull as you go. The tighter that you pull the elastic while sewing, the tighter it will be around your bowl. Overlap the end of the elastic by about 1 inch. Trim up any loose threads.
I would suggest that you either use pinking shears or fray stop so that your fabric doesn’t fray when you need to wash it.
Not only does the cover keep my mixing bowl clean, but it also adds a fun pop of color to my kitchen that I can easily change out to match my mood, decor or holidays.

My younger daughter loves to cook and we always wind up spending time rinsing out the bowl! This is the perfect solution…maybe she’ll even agree to help me sew it! Thanks so much. I’ve pinned this, too!

Best tip ever-go to walmart in household dept.and buy the sliders that are sticky on one side and stick one one each foot under the mixer. i wanted the 1/2 inch size but had to settle for the 1 inch. it works just a little too big. you will be amazed what a difference. joanie
It’s hard to come by knowledgeable people in this particular subject, however, you seem like you know what you’re talking about!
Thanks
