My family has been lucky enough to spend a fair amount of time in Virginia Beach, VA. The beach is our favorite place to hang with the kiddos, but when it is just us adults we head to a local joint called Waterman’s. Waterman’s is famous for their amazingly fresh, citrus drink called the Orange Crush, and let me tell you, I’ve drank my fair share of them. When we are back home in North Carolina thoughts of Orange Crushes and beaches make me wistful for summer and the chance to be back in Virginia. Because this drink signifies summer to me, I am crazy excited that after some trial and error I have almost nailed it on the head and created a spot on copy cat.
- 1½ oranges, juiced
- ¼ cup lemon lime soda
- 1½ ounces orange flavored vodka
- ¾ ounce orange liqueur
- Juice oranges and strain pulp. Combine orange juice, lemon lime soda, vodka and orange liqueur in shaker and mix well. Serve over crushed ice.
We also really love the grapefruit version. Simply substitute the juice of one grapefruit for the orange juice and follow the recipe above.
Since we can’t all spend our summer hanging out on the beach without a care in the world and a drink in our hand, we can bring a bit of that feeling to our own backyards. Just make a few orange crushes and enjoy lounging in your patio chair!
