Some days are too busy to think about an elaborate dessert, but there is always something to celebrate in my house and we like to do it with treats! We work hard, we play hard and we love sweets. So on those days where time is short but sweet tooth cravings aren’t, we whip us up some cheater desserts. There are a handful in our repitiore, but the cheater churros tend to be a family favorite. And since today just happens to be Cinco de Mayo, I hope you’ll feel inspired to fiesta with these fiteen minute cinnamon sugar treats.
- 1 (17.3 oz) package of puff pastry - thawed
- ½ cup melted butter
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 450*
- Line baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- Unroll puff pastry and cut horizontally down the center and cut each half into one inch thick pieces.
- Place pieces on prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
- While baking, melt the butter and stir together the cinnamon and sugar.
- After baking, while still hot, roll the pastry piece in butter and roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
It’s important to make sure that the puff pastry is thawed, so you can cut and bake it easily.
Be sure to roll the pastry in the butter and cinnamon sugar mix while still hot to help the sugar stick. I mean, come on…you don’t want to lose the best part, do ya?
They may not be authentic, but they sure are delicious!
Do you have any cheater recipes that you love?
This is my kind of baking – easy AND delicious. Thanks for sharing!

Haha, mine too Sara!
Don’t take me wrong, but I have to laugh at the “Cinco de Mayo” celebrations in the US: Mexicans have no idea why and what you are celebrating, guys!!!!!!!
