5 Minute Burlap Silverware Holder

I’ve got Thanksgiving on the mind.  We are having family over and leaving on a vacation a couple of days afterwards, so I have been busy trying to get as much of the planning taken care of now so that it is less stressful for me on the actual day.  I like to try new tablescapes every year and this year will be no exception.  Burlap is the big thing right now, so I figured that I should try my hand with it.  I had this little beauty made in less than five minutes, but it will make a big impact on my Thanksgiving table.

First things first, if you are using a Silhouette or Cricut or any other die cutting machine and are in need of vinyl to use for projects, head to your dollar store or to Walmart.  You can buy the cheap, adhesive that is made to go inside of your shelves and cabinets just like you would with vinyl.  Except you will pay a fraction of the cost for it.  I normally get mine at my dollar store, but they had been out of stock the last two times I was in there, so I broke down and paid a whopping $1.97 for this roll at Walmart.

Now back to the silverware holders…I bought a half yard of burlap from Hobby Lobby and grabbed some paint and a brush and I was all set to go.  I used my Silhouette to cut out the word “thankful,” but you could freehand or print it off on the computer and trace if you don’t have a cutting machine.  I had every intention of pulling out my sewing machine and creating these beautiful stitches down the sides, but instead I reached for my trusty glue gun.  You just can’t beat that speed and efficiency!  I cut my burlap to 8 1/2 inches by 9 inches and simply glued it together.  After I had it in the shape that I liked I laid my vinyl on top and put one quick coat of paint on.

And that’s it!  I have no patience, so I didn’t even let the paint dry before removing the vinyl.  I love that it gives a rustic and modern look to my table setting at the same time and that it was incredibly cheap to make, but adds a wow factor.
