Oh kid’s artwork can be such a magical thing. How sweet is it when your little one brings you their drawing that they created just for you and begs for it to be displayed? Along with the other 987 priceless masterpieces that they have created.
That day alone.
I know that I am not the only one who carefully picks and chooses which art pieces to save and which to use your Bond like parent powers on to hide in the trash can. Heaven forbid someone move all of the yucky trash and find their creation in the garbage!
But I really do love my kiddo’s artwork. So much that I made gift bows with them last year and have come up with a new project this year!
Because you know there is one demographic that can never get enough of kid’s art…and that is the grandparents.
So here is an affordable way to create a DIY Keepsake Wood Cutting Board that is perfect for gift giving or displaying in your home. It won’t break the bank, but it will melt hearts!
Supplies:
willing child participant
wood cutting board
wood burning kit (something like this, if you buy from Michaels or Hobby Lobby make sure to use your 40% 0ff coupon)
Have your mini Picasso draw a simple picture onto the cutting board with pencil. Remember to keep it simple! You don’t want to be burning a crazy intricate drawing onto the cutting board for hours.
Plug in your wood burner and let it get super hot. Once it is warmed up, simply trace your kids lines as best you can, allowing the wood to burn evenly.
When you have completed burning the drawing, wash the cutting board well, using a lemon if necessary to remove the pencil markings.
Throw a bow on that bad boy and you have created a one of a kind DIY keepsake wood cutting board with little effort and little cost!
Not a bad day’s work, am I right?
And this is great for a last minute gift, you could whip these out in less than an hour.
Check out this detail…this one will not be hidden in the trash can!
(PS, this is pre washing so you can see the pencil marks still)
And I am super excited to take part in a fun 12 Days of Handmade Christmas Roundup with some fabulous bloggers! My project will be coming up on Thursday, but please make sure to click through and check out what everyone else is creating.
