Brown Sugar Almond Lip Scrub

As winter seems to continue to drag on, my skin and lips continue to dry out.  And it’s not just me, my house is full of little people who seem to have a really hard time not licking their lips and drying them further.  But my breaking point came when my oldest daughter’s lips started to bleed because they were so chapped.  I was kind of at a loss since she refuses to use chap sticks that aren’t a kid approved flavor, but those flavors tempt her to continue licking her lips to taste it (I mean, she is currently using Cake Batter favor, how can you not lick it?!).  Knowing that we needed to scrub to get to the bottom of the problem, we created a ridiculously easy brown sugar almond lip scrub that has made a world of difference for her.  And the best part is you probably have all of the ingredients in your pantry right now.  Are you ready to make your own?  Here’s how:

I had a couple small containers on hand that I had picked up from the travel section at Walmart for .97 cents for two that I use to store my scrub.  They are the perfect size for holding lip product, so I tried to guesstimate how much lip scrub it would take to fill both.  For that reason I used 1 1/2 Tbs brown sugar and 1 1/2 Tbs coconut oil, but you can use whatever amount works for you making sure to use a 1:1 ratio of brown sugar and coconut oil.

After peeking through my cabinet at all of my extracts, I chose to use almond because I just love the scent and I know that my kids do too and I wanted them to be happy to scrub their lips.  A little goes a long way with extracts, so I only added 1/4 tsp of almond extract to the mix (but you can use and flavor you prefer).  Use a spoon and mix it all together.  The coconut oil will soften and become much easier to combine after working just a bit.

Stir until it becomes a nice, smooth mixture that is well combined and add to whatever jar you plan to store it in.  And now you are ready to use it!  Super simple, am I right?

Just add a small amount to the tip of your finger and work in a small circular motion all over both the top and bottom lip.  The taste is fantastic, but it moisturizes and removes dead skin all at the same time.  Yay for multi tasking!

I love how incredibly fast this is to make and how easy it is to change up your flavor by adding any extract that you prefer.  It has made such a difference for my kid’s lips in a very short amount of time.  You can honestly see a difference after the first use.  Love it!
