Oh how I love a cute treat! Sometimes it seems you spend an eternity creating a Pinterest worthy dessert that your family takes one look at and pushes their plates away in disgust. I’ve been there…as have many others. There is a reason those “Pinterest Fails” are so hilarious and I think it’s because we can all relate. We all have that one project that ended up a terrible mess. But don’t worry because this is one dessert that the whole family will love and with the SUPER Snack Packs and mixins, it is next to impossible for this to ever be considered a fail. I made these adorable Easter Basket Snack Packs in less than 20 minutes and my entire family gobbled them up!
The idea came to me to create baskets with yummy chocolate covered Easter eggs in them when I saw the cute Snack Pack display at my local Walmart. That bunny face on top just made me want to create something that would make my kiddos smile. The display was located next to the oils in the baking aisle and it was just calling my name. I picked up some Honey Maid Graham Crackers and some mint Oreos as well as some fresh strawberries and white candy melts to complete the project.
I went straight to work when I got home so that my kiddos could enjoy the surprise of seeing the treats when they got home from school. I washed and dried my strawberries (it is so important to dry your strawberries before dipping them-otherwise the chocolate won’t stick correctly!) and heated my candy melts in the microwave as per the package directions. I dipped my strawberries into the melted candy and placed them on a parchment paper covered plate. After each strawberry had been dipped I put the plate in the freezer to help them cool and harden. In the meantime I crushed some Oreos and Graham Crackers with my rolling pin to use as “dirt.” I placed a small amount of it on top of each Snack Pack cup. (PS: love the easy open lids…I hate when you can’t pull a lid off without ending up wearing half of the pudding!) After about five minutes I pulled my strawberries from the freezer and used the leftover candy melts to “color my eggs.” I added a small amount of food coloring and melted candy melts to a zippered bag, snipped off the end and piped designs onto the strawberries.
I think that I had more fun decorating these “eggs” that I do real Easter eggs! I cut a one inch wide strip of patterned scrapbook paper and hot glued each end to the edge of the Snack Pack cup to create my basket’s handles. Each of the baskets above has a different “dirt” layer. The pink basket is crushed mint Oreos, the orange basket is a mix of mint Oreos and Graham Crackers, and the green basket is crushed Graham Crackers. I liked having the options and an easy way to change up the flavor a bit.
My kids were so in love with these sweet little treats (and since one Snack Pack has as much calcium as an 8 oz glass of milk, I don’t mind!) and they were so simple to make that I can’t wait to create new ideas for other holidays and occasions. There are tons of great ideas on how others are using SUPER Snack Packs here as well as a great coupon so you can enjoy your own!
And on that note, I’ve got to know…what was your biggest Pinterest fail? Let me know in the comments.
So my biggest Pinterest fails were mostly just dinners that I made that I actually loved and my family all took one bite of and hated! Ah well! 🙂
These, though, I think everyone *would* love! I love how you colored the melts and decorated them–they turned out SO cute! #client
