Some days I think that my tween will be the death of me. Between the eye rolling, back talking and emotion fueled tantrums, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t question how I will keep my sanity through this phase. But the good news is that my daughter and I have been working together to come up with solutions that benefit both of us and help our days run a bit smoother.
And I think that our shared favorite is our trick to getting an extra 10 minutes of sleep every day.
This trick is certainly nothing new. It’s not a mind blowing revelation, but it has changed our mornings drastically. We have started setting out a week’s worth of clothing on Sunday so that we can sleep in instead of rummaging through drawers and the laundry looking for a certain top or her lucky lacrosse socks, rushing so we aren’t late for school.
When my daughter Grace and I saw the adorable Sauder Cottage Road Bench in the newly launched Sauder Lookbook, we both fell in love and knew that it would work perfectly in her room. Grace is a voracious reader, so anytime that she sees a surface that she can sit and read on, she is sold. I take a bit more convincing, but the beautiful lines, the easy assembly (literally just bolting the legs on) and the fact that Sauder has been around since before my grandparents were born was enough for me.
Now Grace and I spend about twenty minutes on Sunday afternoon and set out a school uniform with accessories for each day of the coming week. Because we have lacrosse three times a week, we also make sure to set out clothing that she can change in to for practice. A day’s worth of clothing is set on top of the bench and we store the rest in a basket underneath the bench. We stack it nicely so that all Grace has to do is pull the top outfit off the pile in the basket and set it on the bench.
I’m so glad that there is at least one thing that Grace and I are agreeing on right now, even if it is extra sleep! And I’m also excited that we were able to find an affordable piece of quality furniture that makes our task that much simpler.
