I Signed up for What?! My Training Plan for my First Obstacle Race

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Mudderella. I received complimentary admission to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

Oh you guys, I am so super excited to be gearing up for my first ever obstacle race and I can’t wait to fill you in on it, because I have a feeling you might want to take part in it too!  I signed up for Mudderella, which is described as “a full-day athletic event series and experience for women by women.”  It’s basically you and your best girlfriends encouraging each other to be strong, have fun and enjoy the day as a team.  Yes please, it sounds amazing, am I right?!

A huge part of the fun is the planning and gearing up for the race.  I am signed up to complete the capitol region race in July, and I have been working hard to get ready and joking with one of my teammates and BFFs, Melissa at The Happier Homemaker, about our piggy backing each other.  Yep, that’s one of the possible obstacles (along with the best equalizer…lots of mud!) and it sounds like it will be hilarious and so much fun!  That’s one of the things that I love so much about this race series; it takes staying fit and working out from a mostly solitary event and turns it into having a fun time with your girls.

I’ve been working with kettle bells and running on my treadmill to prepare, but I am adding in other exercises that I have found on the Mudderella training site since the race is designed to challenge “all around strength, balance, endurance and agility in a team environment.”  I am a competitive person by nature, but I am enjoying this team attitude and way of thinking.  I hope that it sticks with me well after the race is complete.

So if you are ready to get in on fitness activities that are fun and social at the same time, Mudderella is for you!  I would like to point out that this is geared towards women, but men can participate if they have been invited by a female.  So grab your girls, and maybe a guy or two as well and check out one of the 9 US and 2 Canadian races planned for 2015.  Here is the current 2015 schedule of events:

–        NY/NJ – May 9, 2015 – Englishtown, NJ

–        Chicago – May 30, 2015 – Richmond, IL

–        NorCal – June 27, 2015 – Vallejo, CA

–        Toronto – July 11, 2015 – Kitchener, ON Canada

–        Capital Region – July 25, 2015 – Clarksburg, MD

–        Colorado – August 22, 2015 – Snowmass Village, CO

–        Pittsburgh – September 12, 2015 – Slippery Rock, PA

–        Whistler – September 26, 2015 – Blackcomb Mountain, Whistler, BC Canada

–        New England – October 3, 2015 – Thompson, CT

Please tell me that you are now just as excited as I am about this awesome race series?  If so, make sure to check out Mudderella on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram.  And definitely check out the YouTube video… you will be pumped and counting down the days afterwards!

And just in case you happen to be running the capitol region race, shoot me an email and let’s meet up to enjoy a post race massage!  (Yep, they have those too!)

I’ll check in another couple of times between now and the race to let you know how my training is going, but I’d love to hear from you about what you do to prepare for races.  Drop a comment below and fill me in.
