Owl-dorable Owl Wreath

Y’all, it is September.  How in the world did that happen?  For real?  But being that it has happened and there is no denying it, I am ready to start getting full on into fall decor.  Growing up with a crafty mom, I know the importance of planning your crafts and DIYs with plenty of advance notice so that you have time to complete them before the actual holiday / season passes.  There have been many times that I have started a craft (especially Christmas ones), gotten super busy and ended up not finishing it in time.  In fact, I have been known to pull out my Christmas decor tubs from the attic and find half completed projects sitting right on top.

It’s a problem.

So I’m trying to get a jump start.  This super cute DIY owl wreath is helping me get even more into the fall spirit.

To make it, I used 4 pieces of felt (1 black, 1 orange and 2 tan), a grapevine wreath, 2 Mason jar lids and some wired ribbon.  A hot glue gun was my weapon of choice.

I started out by making the eyes.  I had a hard time deciding on whether or not to use a different color than the wings for them, but it just didn’t look right to me, so I stuck with the monochromatic look.  I made felt flowers (which I showed you how to do here) and hot glued them onto the Mason jar lids.  Then I cut black circles slightly larger than the lid and cut fringe around the sides.  Another dab of hot glue to hold the lid to the black felt and then they were glued onto the wreath.

Next I cut two triangles, one slightly smaller than the other, out of the orange felt and glued them together.  I slid them just underneath the eyes and glued it all together.

I topped it off with a little bow made out of wired ribbon.  I used the same technique that I showed you with my Disney Villain Hair Bows.

And there she is!  I think that I will more than likely leave this wreath as an indoor decoration, but you could always use a spray sealant or outdoor modge podge if you wanted to put it on your front door.
