We are so lucky to be celebrating this Valentine’s Day on a cruise through the Caribbean. (I’m sorry, it’s okay to hate me a little, I don’t blame you.) And because of that my kiddos are missing out on their classroom parties. While this seems like a no brainer, easy enough trade to me as a fully rational adult, my little ones were bummed that they wouldn’t have the opportunity to pass out sweet cards and gifts to their friends.
So we came up with a fun compromise…let’s have handouts to give out on the ship!
Everyone, no matter who you are, enjoys getting a cute little pick me up Valentine’s Day card. So perfect strangers we meet on excursions, new friends from the on-ship kid camps and staff…prepare yourself to be inundated with cuteness overload!
I ordered these adorable classroom cards from Minted (along with some really amazing photo gifts for my hubs) and it is safe to say that I am in love with them. Sidenote: if you have not checked out Minted yet, you are missing out. All of the items in their shop are from independent artists from all over the world and are stellar quality.
Oh, and hold the phone…check out the mini game of tic tac toe on the back?! Adorbs!
The kids wanted to add a small gift as well, but I am not one to carry candy around with me…because I will totally eat all of it. After a quick trip to the craft store, I was able to whip up these DIY Cupid’s Arrow Pencils in no time at all.
Supplies Needed:
package of pencils
washi tape in color of your choice
package of craft feathers
felt and hot glue or pre-cut and taped heart shapes
My oldest daughter was very adamant about the pencil still being in perfect working order for the recipient, so I was very careful to choose items that would be easily removed. Washi tape is seriously the best because you can take it off just about anything, to include paper, with no problem whatsoever.
I grabbed a small handful of feathers and taped them around the eraser with gold washi tape.
Then I used my pre cut and pre taped heart stickers to put one on either side of the point of the pencil. If you can’t find the pre cut, pre stickered hearts, it would be super easy to just grab some felt, cut your own shape and then hot glue it on.
And just like that, you are ready to shoot your arrows of love into someone’s heart. These are perfect for decor around the house, classroom parties and handing out to complete strangers on a boat. Whatever suits your fancy.
Completely adorable, super easy to make and fully functional as a pencil when you remove the trappings, these arrows are a fun addition to any Valentine’s Day soiree.
Here is a sneak peek of the other items that I picked up from Minted to give to my hubby. He is headed out of the country for awhile soon so I wanted to give him some beautiful photos to decorate his space with. I puffy heart love the rose gold foiled heart print. Those are all family photos from 2015. And the photo below was taken while we were in San Fran for the memorial service of a wonderful friend. Also rose gold foil…I just can’t help myself!
So what are your kids passing out on Valentine’s Day? I’d love to hear from you!
*Big thanks to Minted for allowing me to yet again experience just how amazingly awesome they are!
