The BIG Laundry Room Redo Reveal!!!

It’s time…the big laundry room redo reveal is here!  There will be a couple of how-to posts still to come, but I just couldn’t wait to show you how the room turned out.

Quick recap.  Here is the “before” shot:

And now here is the new and improved “after” photo:

Ummm, pretty big change, am I right?!

And although I wouldn’t say that I started out with a budget friendly plan in mind (let’s be honest, I had no plan and was just flying by the seat of my pants), this turned out to be one of the least expensive room makeovers that I have ever done coming in at just under $200!  I’ll give a breakdown of my costs below.

So let’s address the elephant in the room…I think that I may be the black sheep of the blogosphere by choosing something other than cabinets to go above my washer and dryer, but if I am totally honest, it was all about useable space for me.  The laundry room (as you can tell from that scary before pic) is where I hide my s$#t, so I needed to have as much space as possible and open shelving provided that.  But I knew that as hard as I try, there may be times that the shelves become a hot mess and I wanted a way to hide it all away.

Enter curtains.

A very cost effective way to cover it all up and it added an insane amount of drama to the room that I was not expecting by shoving a visual reminder into my face that the room has nine foot ceilings.  I purchased the two panel set from TJMaxx for $29.95 and hemmed them to length.  (There will be more info on how I hung them in an upcoming post, so stay tuned…just know that it looked something like this)

Add in the chandelier that I found clearanced to half price at Lowes and it all comes together to really make a statement.

The counter was a no brainer to me.  Every time that I oohed and aahed over a laundry room, it had a gorgeous wood countertop.  And while I know that I will never use it as a folding table (because I want to spend my folding time in front of the TV!), I just loved the thought of another area that I could decorate.  Not to mention that it really grounded the space and tied it all together with a polished look.

Here is my cost breakdown:

Shelves: $15 (Note that I had the shelves on hand and only purchased the brackets.  If you were to purchase the shelves it would add an additional $30-40)

Wood Counter: $35

Curtains, Hampers and Art: $65

Light Fixture and Medallion: $70

For a grand total of: $185

I “shopped my home” to find the small decor items and the rug to finish the room off.

Okay, so hit me with it…what do you think?  Am I crazy for not just throwing some cabinets up there and calling it a day?  Do you love or hate the curtains?  Is the chandelier craze dead and gone?  Let me know in the comments below or shoot me an email at downhomeinspiration@gmail.com.  I’d love to hear from you!

  1. I love it. What a great place to do laundry. I love the fact that you can close thecurtains and the mess is all gone! Keep up the good work.

  2. I absolutely love this laundry room! It’s fairly small like mine and I love the curtain more than cabinets anyways! It gives it a little extra pizazz! Thank you for sharing!
