DIY Laundry Room Curtains

I just want to take a second to tell you all that I am so very appreciative of all of the amazing emails that I have received from my incredible readers telling me how much they love my new laundry room!  It means the world to me and keeps me motivated to keep oversharing my life with you all here on the blog.  And with that being said, I wanted to quickly share with you how I created my DIY laundry room curtains to hide the mess of open shelving.

Finding a great pair of curtains at TJMaxx for $30 convinced me not to make my own, but if I hadn’t found a pattern that I fell in love with I would have made my own panels and saved a bit of money.  As it was, I chose to hem the set but needed to get them hung (and the countertop in) to decide how much to trim off.  To hang the curtains I slipped one panel onto the pipe and took note of how much they stuck out on top of the pipe.  I used that measurement to decide how low from the ceiling to hang the closet rod socket.

I had previously painted the socket to match the wall, so as to draw less attention.  I measured two inches down from the celling and 16 inches out from the wall (the width of the shelves) and put one closet rod socket on each side.

As I started to hang the pipe, I realized that the color was not quite what I was going for, so I grabbed some PVC pipe that I had in our shed and used it as a “cover.”  I slid it onto the pipe and hung the curtain from that.  Please note that if you choose to use only PVC pipe that it will more than likely sag after some use.

After hanging them for a dry run, I hemmed the curtains to fit, taking off enough to make a couple of pillow covers!
