Have y’all seen the specialty “hard” sodas that are being offered lately? They are adult beverages containing alcohol and it seems to have all started with root beer, but now there is cherry soda, ginger ale and orange creme flavors as well. With summer just around the corner and the heat rising, homemade ice cream has been on my mind, and what better way to change it up a bit than by using one of these “hard” sodas to make it an adults only treat?
This recipe is so simple, with only three ingredients. I used my KitchenAid mixer’s ice cream maker attachment, but any ice cream machine will work perfectly.
- (1) 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 1¼ cup hard soda
- 1 cup whole milk
- Whisk all ingredients together in a medium bowl and pour slowly into ice cream maker, following manufacturer's instructions.
- Pour into an airtight container and freeze for 2-4 hours until completely firm.
I’ve got to admit that I have become a huge fan of the cherry cola flavored hard sodas and I cannot wait to try this recipe out with it. I love how simple this is to switch up and change around. Of course if you wanted to make a PG version for the kiddos, simply use their favorite soda instead of the hard variety and you’re good to go!
How great would this ice cream be to make an ice cream float with?! Just add a couple of scoops to a glass and then pour an additional hard soda on top.
Add some fresh whipped cream and a maraschino cherry, you’ve got a picture perfect treat with a fresh flavor!
Have you tried any of the hard sodas yet? What’s your favorite flavor? Drop me a comment below and let me know.
Oh my goodness! I wasn’t aware that you could buy alcoholic orange soda but I have never been more excited! It’s like the best part of being a kid and an adult all in one drink! Thanks for sharing, can’t wait to try 🙂
I know, Ebony! I was so excited when I found it!!!
