Beer Candied Bacon

Oh man, there are no words to describe the amazing awesome-ness of this recipe other than to say it is BEER CANDIED BACON!  Do I need to say more?!

Okay, if you read my last post you’ll know that I hosted my husband’s fantasy football draft last weekend.  There were some good times, lots of beer and some great teams picked.  There was also some delicious food.  But this bacon, that I repeat is beer candied bacon, was the overwhelming favorite.  I had it displayed in mason jars and guys were grabbing jars full and running before I even knew what was happening.

I guess they liked it a bit.  In fact, I may have heard the phrase, “This is the best bacon I have ever had!” muttered a time or two.

Or maybe ten.  A girl can lose count when she hears it often enough.

I slightly adapted this recipe from one that I found on Oskar Blues Brewery website.  They are one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Colorado.  If you ever happen to find yourself in Lyons, CO, make sure you stop in and say I sent you.  The pizza is to die for.  In the meantime though, you must make this bacon.

Must!

Ingredients
  • 1 lb thick cut bacon
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup stout beer
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400*.
  2. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil and set a wire cooling on top. Lay bacon on top of cooling rack.
  3. Cook for 10 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, combine brown sugar and beer in a small bowl. After cooking for ten minutes, remove the bacon and brush one side with the beer mixture. Flip the bacon and brush the other side with the mixture as well.
  5. Return the bacon to the oven for another 10-12 minutes or until it is as crisp as you like it.

It may sound strange, but I like to serve my bacon with peanut butter.  I never would have thought to try this combo on my own, but enjoyed it so thoroughly at a local brewery that I have implemented it into my own kitchen.  Give it a shot, you may really enjoy it as well.

And keep checking back.  My pulled pork recipe and cheese stuffed beer pretzel recipes that were also served at our fantasy football party will be posted in the next couple of weeks.

And if you try this incredible bacon, please make sure to come back and let us all know what you think.

Comments

  1. A pinch of cayenne mixed in with the sugar puts it over the top!

  2. Is this best served room temp or fresh from the oven? I’m considering making a huge batch for my husband’s 40th birthday party, but I’d have to do it several hours in advance.
