Alright, so I will admit that I had never tried moonshine until we moved to the south. After a couple of sips from friends and a trip to Gatlinburg, TN later and I am hooked.
Although you won’t find me running around on a reality show anytime soon, I have started dabbling in making my own moonshine in the comfort of my kitchen. This cherry pie moonshine is sweet and tasty and also incredibly easy to make.
Who knew that the cheap stuff that made for many an out of control night in college could be the simple ingredient to this homemade ‘shine?
- 64 oz cherry juice
- 15 oz can tart cherries
- ¼ cup sugar
- 375 ml everclear (or more, to taste)
- Combine cherry juice, can of tart cherries (undrained) and sugar in a large saucepan. Heat until just boiling and stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Allow to cool and add everclear. Stir to combine.
There is no right or wrong answer as to how much booze is the right amount. I like mine to be drinkable and not feel as though my esophagus is on fire, so I stick with the 375 ml of ever clear, but feel free to taste test and add the amount that is right for you.
I pour my cherry pie moonshine directly into 8 oz Mason jars (this recipe yields (10) 8 oz jars) and store in my pantry until we are ready to use it. Due to the alcohol, it will be just fine left unrefrigerated.
This could be a fun gift for Father’s Day or just to take to a summer BBQ (be sure to have a designated driver!). Just make sure that you keep it out of the reach of kiddos, because the sweet smell and taste could be deceiving.
So let me know…have you tried moonshine? If so, what is your favorite flavor? I’d love to hear from you in the comments section below.
Did you know that it is illegal to distill alcohol for consumption unless you have a Distilled Spirits Plant permit? It does not matter if the alcohol will not be sold and is only for personal consumption. It is a FEDERAL crime. Woops!
Hi “Just Sayin,” thanks for pointing that out, but if you read the post you can see that in no way am I personally distilling or telling others to distill any alcohol. I am basically making a mixed drink that provides a similar taste to true moonshine. No crimes committed here. 😉
Yea well “Just Sayin” it’s only illegal if you get caught
I love cherries so will definitely make. If this is illegal then handcuff me now… LOL no different than making Sangria. I made a knockout cherry sangria yesterday! Thanks for the recipe.
Make apple pie and cherry pie a couple times of year. Tried different receipes but the one I like is close to your receipe. Usually drink it while watching football or hockey games. I usually put it in the refrigerator for about a week after blending all ingredients. Also gave a couple of jars to a neighbor, him and his friends love it.
I make apple cinnamon pie moonshine. I use real moonshine. Take a 24oz mason jar. Add 1/4 cup sugar. Add 1/2 cup brown sugar.
Add 12oz of moonshine or spirits.
Add 12 Oz of 100% real apple juce.
Leave a little room to mix
Put lid on and shake for 1 min or until sugar is all mixed .
Take lid off and add 2 sticks of cinnamen . Place in fridge for 24 hours . Can add more spirits if wanted. Longer this sits the better it gets.
I made peach moonshine. I used 750 ml Three Olives vodka, 2 15 oz cans peaches in syrup, and added a bag of dried peaches. Just mixed it in an extra large jar. Let it sit in the fridge for a week. Everyone loved it!
Yum! That sounds great, Darlene!
