DIY Glass Milk Bottles for a Fraction of the Price!

Glass milk bottles seem to be all the rage these days and are popping up in magazines and taking over Pinterest with their popularity.  I absolutely adore the look and dig the retro vibe, but I am a super cheapskate and was unwilling to order any at the exorbitant prices that I had found online.  But I felt that I needed to have some.  They spoke to me every time that I saw someone’s gorgeous party pictures of their beautiful glass bottles with  sweet paper straws sticking out of the tops.  They said, “Please bring us to your home and take lots of pictures of us.”  And really, how can you say no to that?!

Not long ago, the family and I took a short road trip (to the Pottery Barn Outlet…eek!…love it SO much).  We hadn’t been on the road long when my hubs decided that he needed a caffeine fix.  To his dismay, after consulting our trusty smartphone maps, we discovered that there was not a Starbucks within a hundred miles.  And the poor guy needed that caffeine if he was going to deal with the kids me at the outlet.  So we found a gas station and I ran in and grabbed a bottled Frappuccino for him.  And as I reached my hand into that gas station cooler, it was like the voices of angels surrounded me.  In my hand was the perfect glass bottle.  It was a Pottery Barn Outlet shopping spree day miracle!

Like a giddy little girl, I made my way to the register with thoughts of all of the parties that this bottle would make an appearance at.  And I was already scheming on when and where I would stock up on more.  I was slightly worried about the small expiration date stamp and how to cover or remove it, but not enough to damper my spirits.  The next day I made a quick run to Walmart and was delighted to find that I could buy a four pack of Frappuccinos for just over $5.  Say what?!  Not only would my hubby reap the benefits of the coffee fix, I would be the proud owner of perfect glass milk bottles.  Double whammy!

Needless to say, they have since made an appearance in the background of many of my blog photos.  They really serve no purpose in the photos other than they are just so darn cute and I want to take a silly amount of pictures of them.  Don’t judge me…it’s a sickness, this obsession of mine.

And good news; those expiration date stamps that I was slightly worried about?  A swipe with nail polish remover took it off with no problems.  Just make sure to remove the labels before throwing the bottles in the dishwasher and you are good to go.

And in case you didn’t believe me about the bottles being in my blog photos, take a look at my pictures for blackberry lemon protein muffinscinnamon chip snickerdoodles and paleo and gluten free 3 ingredient crepes.
