DIY Glow in the Dark Window Clings

This post is brought to you by Plaid Crafts and Blueprint Social. The opinions are my own.

My kids are in love with window clings.  We generally head to the dollar store for every holiday and they pick out what they want to use to decorate their room and sometimes even “their” window in the car.  But when I was challenged by Plaid to create something with a box of surprise supplies, we decided to make our very own DIY glow in the dark window clings!  It was so incredibly easy and was a fun project to do with the kids.

When I received my box of surprise supplies, I was kind of stumped.  The box contained glow in the dark Mod Podge, Stiffy and some glow in the dark Folk Art Paints.  My first thought was to create a cheesecloth ghost with the Stiffy, but I think that we’ve all seen those a time or two.  I wanted to think outside the box a bit…

…So I grabbed a container of clear school glue and mixed in some of the paint.  I love these paints!  They are multi surface, so you can use them to paint wood, glass, ceramics, metal, terra cotta, plastic, styrofoam, canvas, slate, paper mache and fabric all from the same bottle.  They’re also dishwasher safe, good for indoor or outdoor use with a water based non toxic formula that is available in a huge array of color choices.  Plus it has a self sealing formula that requires fewer coats and less drying time.  Sounds, pretty good, right?!  *Note that it is imperative that you use clear glue.  Otherwise your colors will be diluted.

We didn’t measure the paint out, we just poured it directly into the top of the glue bottle.  The kids were so fascinated by the glue just sitting in one big glob inside the paint.

Put the lid back on the glue and shake that bottle up!  The glue and paint combine perfectly together.

Grab a gallon sized zippered bag and cut three sides so that it lays flat on your work surface.  And now just “paint” with the glue bottle.  Write words, draw pictures…anything that your little heart desires.

Make sure that you keep the lines thick enough that when they dry you’ll be able to peel them off the bag and cling them to the window.

Once they are dry, peel them off of the bag and allow them to cling to any window.  They will glow when under a black light for added fun!

We had such a great time making these and the kids are already asking to make more!  It was a great project to work on together.  They can be proud of their creations each time they look out their window.
