Some of you may have read that my husband recently deployed, so my kids and I are having a very relaxed Thanksgiving meal this year. In fact, we don’t even plan on actually having a Thanksgiving dinner. We are instead having a great big brunch followed by lots of afternoon game day snacks as we watch our beloved 49ers take on the Seahawks. Lots of fun, yet lots less prep, cooking and cleaning afterwards. As much as I miss my hubby, I am kind of looking forward to such a relaxed meal. It is almost liberating in a way to know that I won’t have to worry about getting the turkey into the oven in the morning or making sure that our cheesecake sets perfectly.
However relaxed our meal will be though, it is still a holiday and we will absolutely celebrate it. We have added fun touches here and there around the house lately, but I have been thinking a lot about our table settings recently. I knew that I wanted something super easy that would fit right in with our laid back vibe, but something that anyone could do, would be easy and inexpensive. And these adorable Thanksgiving Turkey place cards fit that description perfectly!
If you’ve got a napkin, napkin ring and a pinecone, you are all set! Here is what you need to do to create your own turkey place card:
Step 1: Fold napkin just shy of in half. You should have anywhere from 1 to 2 inches of space left.
Step 2: Fold the bottom up again leaving another space the same size as your first.
Step 3: Fold the napkin from the side accordion style. I recommend starting with the outer edge folded under and making sure to end the same way. It gives a nicer looking finished product.
Step 4: Now that you’ve got a fan, slide the end into a napkin ring.
Step 5: Now use your fingers to spread out the folds and you’ve got a glorious turkey tail!
Grab a pinecone from your backyard and a small piece of cardstock to add the name to. Simply set the napkin ring onto the plate so that the napkin stands up and add the pinecone in front of it.
Just like I said, super easy and yet still festive and fun. Each place setting took me less than five minutes from start to finish!
