Edible and Kid Friendly Marshmallow Paint

My hubby and I have been hard at work on building a gorgeous new shed in our backyard (more on that soon!).  We He has been working on it basically from sunup to sundown each and every day this past week and the kids have been hanging out right alongside him, enjoying the sunshine and spring weather.

That is, until we had a couple of days of rain.  My hubby kept right on working, but the kids…not so much.  They were ready to move it on inside.  To keep them happy and entertained we decided to try out a new project.  We all agreed that marshmallow paint sounded too good to pass up!

This is so super simple to make, and we had all ingredients on hand.  The best part is that it is perfectly kid friendly and edible if your little one can’t seem to keep himself from licking those fingers.  I’ll be honest, it’s not a great taste, but it won’t hurt you either.

Put one cup of marshmallows (I used minis because I find them easier to measure out) and 1/4 cup water in a microwave safe bowl and heat in microwave for 30 seconds.  Stir well and heat for another 30 seconds, stirring well once again.  Add 3 Tbs of corn syrup and a few drops of food coloring to the marshmallows and heat again for 30 seconds.  Stir it all up one more time and set aside to let it cool down for a couple of minutes.

This creates a thick, almost paste like paint that works fantastically for finger painting.  Brushes created streaks, but fingers were perfect!  The paint in the bowls will eventually become a gelatinous mess, but it took hours for that to happen to ours.  The paint will dry on the paper and leaves a beautiful sheen with fun dimension.

My kiddos had a ton of fun with this, it took very little effort and now that the sun is shining again the kids can head back outside!
