Spending every day at the beach sounds like a dream summer to me, but it’s hardly feasible. Even while we are staying just a few blocks from the beach, the kiddos and I generally only make it down to the water a couple of times per week. However, I just love the way my hair looks after going for a swim, and I adore how simple it is to just let it air dry and enjoy the beautiful wavy curls. I thought about taking a quick jog down to the water to quickly dunk my head in every morning before the kids wake up, but that’s just way too much work! So I settled with making a DIY sea salt spray that has the same effect with much less effort.
Supplies Needed:
1 cup hot water
2 Tbsp sea salt
2 Tbsp coconut oil
1/4 cup rubbing alcohol*
1 tsp hair gel
*I know that it sounds strange to add rubbing alcohol, but alcohol is a very common ingredient used in hair products. Not only does it help the products last longer, it is also great for cleansing the scalp and stimulating hair growth.
Make sure that you use hot water to ensure that the coconut oil melts. Add all ingredients to a spray bottle and shake well to mix. Make sure to shake well again before each use.
To use, spray damp hair generously and scrunch it up. Allow to air dry, finger brushing if necessary. Or you can do what I do and spray hair and braid before bedtime. First thing in the morning, unbraid and finger brush and you’ve got gorgeous beach waves while you slept!
What’s your go to summer hairstyle?
