Easiest Ever Homemade Granite Cleaner

I have had a super busy couple of weeks and sometimes I just need a project that falls together with basically no effort whatsoever.  Kind of a “gimme,” but still a project that will actually help me accomplish something.  This easiest ever homemade granite cleaner was exactly what I needed.  It was ridiculously quick to pour three things into one bottle and mix, even I could do it between unpacking for one trip and preparing for another.  In between loads and loads of laundry, ever growing homework lists and lots of volunteer obligations, this granite cleaner saved my sanity.  It reminded me that not all projects need to take an hour or more.  Some can take two minutes and be fantastic!granite-cleaner-1I’ve got an incredibly “busy” pattern on my granite and sometimes basically all of the time it is covered in crumbs from sandwiches or cereal and I don’t even know it.  The pattern camouflages the mess until you look closely.  And when you do…well, let’s just say that it’s pretty gross.  Like this:

Umm, yuck.  And the worst part is that I don’t see it until I stick my face down next to it.  Long story short, I needed a granite cleaner that I could easily spray on and trust to help me clean up that mess.  Luckily for me that spray only requires three ingredients and a dollar store spray bottle.  Ready to make your own?  Here’s the recipe:

1 tsp dish soap

1/4 cup rubbing alcohol

2 cups water

Add the dish soap and rubbing alcohol to a spray bottle.  Add water (slowly so that your soap doesn’t bubble over).  Put the lid on the spray bottle and shake ingredients together.

And that’s it.  Could not be simpler, but it works so amazingly well!  Just spray down the granite and wipe with a clean cloth.

When projects come together this quickly it gives me more chances to enjoy my vacation time.  If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen me in New Hampshire last week.  I had such a great time with my husband and his buddies.  I even had a chance to grab my camera and snap some fun pictures of them rock climbing.

Do you see them on the left hand side there?  Yep, this girl was happy to stay on the trails.  I had my snacks, my water and all of my camera equipment right there with me (in my absolute favorite Oil Cloth Day Tote Bag by Duluth Trading Company), and no fear of falling down the mountain!

Seriously, so obsessed with this bag!  You can zip the sides up to create a smaller bag or unzip for a much larger tote!  Genius!

Now that I have returned from New Hampshire, I am busily planning my next trip.  And I CAN’T wait!  I am currently planning a very exciting international trip with a month’s notice.  Yep, pulling my hair out a bit, but so glad that quick projects like the granite cleaner keep me on my toes and excited about each and every kind of DIY!

So what about you?  Do you have a super quick DIY project that you just adore?  If so, I’d love to hear about it!
