Initial Wall Hanging

I have a confession to make.  I LOVE sales.  Please do not expect me to walk by those little red price stickers unfazed.  It just won’t happen.  And don’t even get me started on the clearance aisles at Target.  That is my kryptonite.

Anywho, a sale is where this story begins.  As I was stalking the aisles at Michaels, waiting oh-so patiently for my kids to pick their own craft projects, I found this pretty little frame peeking up at me from the clearance section.  Okay, truth time…there were actually two of these frames.  And I may or may not have put both of them in my shopping cart.  In fact, as we speak, there could very well be a frame exactly like this one hiding under my bed because it was purchased and I have absolutely no use for it.  Don’t judge…or tell my husband.

I racked my mind trying to think of a way to use at least one of these frames.  I already had loads of family pictures in my house and was not looking to use it as an actual frame for a photograph.  But I just happened to have this adorable chevron fabric left over from recovering a stool seat and I was looking for another way to incorporate it in the house.  And a solution was born.  A simple initial wall hanging.

Here’s the breakdown:

Frame: $12 at Michaels

Fabric: on hand from Hobby Lobby

Initial: $3 at Michaels

This is one of those projects that is just so darn easy that you wish you had done it sooner.  I removed the glass from the frame (don’t worry, I’ll use that for something else and you’ll see it in a new post soon), cut my fabric to be a bit larger than the opening and glued it to the card board that was already in the frame with my hot glue gun.

All that was left to do after that was to center my initial and glue that bad boy right on there.  As you can see from my picture I changed my mind about the initial.  I liked the black letter with the black frame better, it seemed to pop more.

And that is that.  For $15 I was able to fill an empty spot on my wall and add a bit of personalization to it as well.  I was pretty happy with the end result.
