It’s that time of year again. The time that I start panicking not about what I am going to give my children for Christmas, but what homemade gift the kids are going to give to their grandparents.
Ugh, the struggle is real, people.
There are only so many framed pictures that a grandma has room for on her wall, so I try to think outside the box a little and give both something that is adorable and made with love by my kiddos, but also something that they can use as well.
This year was no exception. Pretty much all of the adults in my family (probably yours too, I assume) are coffee drinkers. My grandma cannot start her day without her mug in hand. In fact, while my husband was going through months of training when he joined the Air Force, our eight month old daughter and I stayed at my grandparent’s home. One of the first words that my daughter learned to say was “hot,” mimicked from my grandma and her coffee. Memories like that are what make gifts like this so special. Even though our family is spread out, we can feel closer when using a “Let’s Hold Hands” Mug.
While I was doing my usual Walmart shopping extravaganza the other day, I swung through the coffee aisle and picked up some delicious Dunkin’ Donuts® French Vanilla Coffee. I’m not going to lie…there were so many yummy flavors to choose from that I froze. Blueberry Muffin, anyone? Chocolate Glazed Donut, say what?!
I also grabbed a plain white mug for less than $2 and some multi surface craft paint to complete my project.
Next I got hold of a willing child participant and painted up his cute little hand. I know that some people stop the handprint crafts as the kids age, but my oldest will be ten in February and there are no signs of me slowing down. They’ll always be my babies. 🙂
Carefully placing the hand on the mug, I lifted it straight off. I added “Let’s Hold Hands” with an oil based permanent marker, then followed the directions on the paint’s packaging to cure it (they all vary slightly, so be sure to follow the directions for your specific paint and brand). Also be sure to add the name and date to the bottom. You may think you’ll always remember, but 10 years from now you may be singing a different tune. 🙂
With a yummy bag of Dunkin’ Donuts® Coffee tucked inside, this makes the perfect handmade gift. Now whenever the recipient holds the mug, they are “holding hands” with their adorable little grand baby (or niece, nephew, cousin…you get the idea). How sweet is that?
And it’s extra sweet right now to be able to use $1.00 off coupon for Dunkin’ Donuts® Coffee via Ibotta exclusively at Walmart.
Which Dunkin’ Donuts® Coffee flavor would you choose to get you through the holidays?
