If I am honest, Valentine’s Day has never been one of my favorite holidays. There is so much pressure to have a “special someone” and that has trickled down to even young children who worry if they don’t get enough cards from their classmates or those dreaded roses that are delivered in high school (am I the only one who still remembers never getting one?!). In our house, we still mark the day, but we celebrate it as a day for family, for those are the most important loved ones we have. As February 14th draws nearer, the kiddos and I are enjoying time together and sharing sweet treats. And this love float that my daughter created is a delicious way to share that sweet, sweet love.
Because we do not drink soda very often in our home, my daughter was immediately taken by the pink cherry flavored 7-Up while walking through the grocery store aisles. She had to have it. I asked her to come up with a good use for it and then we would discuss it, so she continued to wander the aisles next to me while pondering. She finally decided upon making “root beer” floats with it, but making it a Valentine’s Day version. I can’t argue with adorable child logic, so in the cart it went and she got right to creating when we got home.
There is nothing revolutionary here, we are not trying to recreate the wheel. Just add a large spoonful of vanilla ice cream to a glass of cherry 7-Up and pile on the whipped cream. Of course my daughter added a maraschino cherry to top it off and served it with a pretty paper straw, because in her book, the girlier the better.
She made enough love floats for the whole family and we all had a lovely afternoon treat and spent some great time together as a family. You cannot beat love like that, no matter what the day! The floats were super yummy and the company was unbeatable. I hope that you try some with your loved ones today!
This love float is so cute. I would love to have one with my grand kids.
