Sometimes you just need to break out a nostalgic favorite treat and pig out. And every now and then you need to take that treat and turn it up to 11, bringing it to a whole new level of awesome.
That is what I did last week when I decided to make some rice krispie treats. While pulling the ingredients out of the pantry my eye was drawn to a package of Oreos that was hiding behind the marshmallows. Umm, surely combining these two delicacies could only create something outrageously delicious, right? I had to try.
And now I am here to share with you the results. Just take my word for it, you are going to want need to make these Oreo rice krispie treats asap! They are the best!
Who doesn’t love the obey gooey goodness of a rice krispie treat? Rice krispie treats always make me think of my grandma…she will whip up a batch and they will be gone by that evening. She loves them so much and I guess that has worn off on me a bit as well. I may or may not have eaten half of these in one afternoon just a couple of days after I posted plank variations. Hey, I will be totally honest here and admit that I work out because I love to eat!
To make my rice krispies, I started by putting about 15 Oreos in a ziplock bag and smashed them with my rolling pin. I made sure to leave some nice sized hunks so that there would be large pieces throughout, not just crumbs. In a large bowl, I added the Oreo chunks and 6 cups of Rice Krispie cereal, then set aside. Next I melted 5 cups of mini marshmallows and 2 Tbsp of butter together in the microwave. Heat for 30 seconds, stir and repeat until they are smooth. Once the marshmallows were nice and melted, I poured them over my cereal and Oreos and stirred to combine. Then I pressed the mixture into a 9×13 pan that had been sprayed with non stick cooking spray.
Now comes the hard part of trying to wait long enough to let them cool. Let me tell you that I failed epically at that. But it’s okay, they taste even better while warm! I just grabbed a big glass of cold milk and went to town. Yummy!
And while this may not be the healthiest treat around, it sure is delicious and worth the splurge every now and then! Do you have a favorite treat that takes you back to childhood? Drop me a comment below and let me know, I love to hear from you!
