I am so in love with the idea of a sharing plate. I’ve always heard that you should never return an empty plate, but taking that a step further and having a plate that is meant to be passed from friend to friend with no owner and no expectations is so much fun. I have been keeping an eye out for a sharing plate in my local stores and boutiques this season so that I can get in on the joy and I have been more than a little shell shocked by the sticker prices that I have seen. Ranging from $30 to $65 is a bit much for me to pay for a plate that I don’t even get to keep and display. So I did what any self respecting DIY loving gal would do; I made my own DIY Sharing Plate for less than $5!
I had planned on purchasing a white plate at the dollar store but was pleasantly surprised to find one at Walmart for $0.88! I grabbed it and a few oil based paint markers as well.
Hating my handwriting I debated on pulling out my Silhouette and creating a stencil, but I decided to just wing it and make it that much more personal.
Obviously you can add whatever sentiment or doodles that you want to create a unique, one of a kind sharing plate for your friends and family. When you are done embellishing the plate, simply place it into a cold oven and heat to 350*. Bake the plate for 30 minutes and then allow it to cool in the oven.
Hand wash the dish to preserve the design.
What do you think about sharing plates? Would you be more excited to get a plate full of goodies or to be able to pass the love along to the next recipient? I’ll be sending mine on its merry way tonight when I get together with some girlfriends. 🙂
I made my own sharing plate following your instructions however when I removed it from oven the pens had faded any tips for next plate? Appreciate it
Martina, did you use oil based pens? That is key!
