This past weekend I changed out my thermostat that was on the fritz. I chose to upgrade and use a Honeywell Wi-fi Thermostat. In all honesty, this is a project that I would normally have my husband handle, but he was out of town and the heat was rising…it had to be taken care of. And I was shocked to discover how simple the installation really was.
For those of you that have been following the blog, you may have gathered that I am a finicky decorator. I have only a few small items that stay the same throughout my home. Other than that things get moved around, revamped or switched out entirely as I tire of them. I have the attention span of a toddler when it comes to my decor. That’s one reason why I love to decorate cheaply and quickly. Sometimes it just takes a small change to create a big impact.
Here is my “before” thermostat.
It is in a rather dark hallway, but is the first thing that you see when you come in through the garage. It was a totally boring wall that was screaming to be jazzed up!
After less than 45 minutes of work, I had my brand new digital wi-fi thermostat installed and was ready to decorate. I decided that a fun paper quote would be perfect. I could use whatever color and pattern of paper I wanted, which was a big plus for me on one of the few beige walls in my home. I love color! Not only could it be colorful, it would also be incredibly inexpensive. I used three 12×12 pieces of paper and some photo stickers. I actually had all of these items on hand, but it would cost less than $5 to purchase. I wanted a letter than would fit around my thermostat and make it almost appear to be part of the design, so I made sure that an “O” was involved. I went pretty safe with “home sweet home,” but I love it all the same!
I am so excited by both my amazing new wi-fi thermostat, but also how quick and cute adding some color to my wall was. It’s pretty great that I can change it whenever I feel like something new, or could even make a new one for each holiday and season. And amazingly I can change the colors of the screen on the thermostat, so I can have a matching look!
What do you think about adding a paper wall quote to your wall? Have you tried to incorporate your thermostat into your decor?
