I participated in a campaign on behalf of Influence Central for TruGreen. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating. As always, all thoughts and opinions are completely my own.
Sometimes it is really hard for me to show you what my life is really like. I don’t mean the fancy photos that are on the blog or the delicious meals that it appears I make every night (trust me, I don’t…last night we had Eggos…don’t judge). No, I mean the mess that is just outside the frame of a picture or the way my kids rooms seem to be constantly overflowing with toys, or the ring around the toilet. Yuck.
But let’s be real people, we are all busy, we all have crazy lives and less time for cleaning and primping than we would probably like.
And things fall to the wayside.
For me, one of those things is lawn care. When my hubby is away (which is often), lawn care falls onto my already way too full plate. I have to make a very concerted effort to keep on top of it and help it thrive. Because my family loves to be outdoors and our yard is basically an extension of our house, I want the grass to be at it’s best at all times. And that doesn’t just magically happen each spring. Man, I wish it did!
Here are some tips I’ve picked up along the way and a great infographic from TruGreen to help keep your lawn in tip top shape:
Be sure to fertilize in the winter
I know that I am guilty of putting the lawn from my mind as soon as I put the mower away for the winter, but this is an important step. Before the first freeze a thorough fertilizing can help replace some of the nutrients that were lost during the summer.
Keep it Clear
Rake away dead leaves and try to keep the traffic down. Teach your kids to walk only on the sidewalk and make sure not to leave heavy items in one spot for too long. It can be more challenging for the grass to recover during the winter months.
I found the info about snow mold on the infographic to be incredibly helpful. Growing up in the cold, northern states, I have seen this first hand many times!
So while you are decorating your yard for the holidays and dreaming up your Christmas wish list, why not add lawn care service from TruGreen to that wish list and take on thing off of your overworked shoulders? Just think, this time next year you won’t have to be worrying at all about winter lawn care tips!
I didn’t know that you should fertilize your lawn in the winter. Like you, I often forget about the lawn once it stops needing to be mown. However, like you said, fertilization can help restore lost nutrients, which can help your grass grow back during the spring. Thanks for the tips!
You have some great tips here for lawn care in the winter. I never really knew that it was a bad thing to let my kids walk across the grass. If the grass recovers more slowly in the winter, then I will definitely have them walk on the sidewalk!
Thank you Kristen for sharing this amazing tips “Winter Lawn Care Tips” I am a big fun of artificial lawn but I also can not avoid the natural lawn environmental support issues.
Hello Kristen, nice blog! Through your blog I come to know that at the time of winter lawn needs extra care. I just started fertilizing my lawn for recovering lost nutrients.
